Regional Economics in Zhejiang Normal University is the provincial key discipline with a profound historical background. In 1996, it was approved as a provincial key supporting discipline, and in 2010, it was approved as a provincial key discipline (Category A). In 2015, Applied Economics was selected as provincial first-class discipline (Category B).

    The master degree program was established in 1998, the first master degree program in regional economics of Zhejiang Province. In the process of long-term construction, relying on the regional economic development, four distinctive research directions have emerged: Industrial Cluster and Regional Transformation, New-Type Urbanization and Specialized Market Upgrade, Regional Banking and Finance, and Rural Regional Economics.

    There are 16 Master Instructors in this master degree program, including 13 professors, 3 associate professors, 8 people have a doctorate, 2 experts receive the State Council special allowance, 1 New Century Excellent Talent in University of Ministry of Education of China, 1 provincial special expert, 6 in the 151 talent project of Zhejiang Province and 3 young and middle-aged academic leaders in provincial universities.

    In the past five years, the subject has undertaken 12 national projects, 30 provincial and ministerial projects, and more than 50 scientific research projects commissioned by local governments and enterprises. Over 100 academic papers and more than 20 books of this subject were published in important journals. And the subject has won more than 10 items of awards on provincial and ministerial level.

    Through the new-round integration of academic disciplines, the strength of this subject team has been strengthened and the goal of "wide-caliber, high-level, open, teaching and research-oriented specialized talent training base and research highlands" is being pursued.
