I. A Brief Introduction to Taizhou University i. A Brief Account of Taizhou University Taizhou University is a full-time comprehensive university affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. In 2021 Taizhou University was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as the unit for conferring Master’s degrees. The university is located in Taizhou City, which is an emerging coastal city of Zhejiang Province. There are over 1500 faculty and staff members, including 30 talents above the provincial and ministerial level such as scholars of the “Yangtze River Scholars Program”, leading talents of the “National Ten-thousand Talents Program” and experts of the “National Talents Introduction Program”, over 80 talents at the provincial level such as talents of the “151 Talents Project” of Zhejiang Province and over 550 doctoral degree holders. At present, Taizhou University has 14 schools which contains 51 undergraduate majors and 3 master majors, and four directly affiliated hospitals. It has established a batch of discipline specialty groups including chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, material architecture, intelligent manufacturing, electric information and life- environmental protection that positively interact and symbiotically evolve with industrial groups, four provincial first-class disciplines,one provincial leading innovation and entrepreneurship team, one university high-level innovation team, five provincial key laboratories and engineering (technology) research centers & technology alliances, one national expert service base, one national postdoctoral scientific research workstation, one provincial workstation for academicians and specialists. Its chemical discipline ranks top 1% and three disciplines of materials science, engineering and clinical medicine rank close to top 1% in ESI global list. In the 2021 natural index ranking, Taizhou University ranks 136th among universities in China (including universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and 9th among the universities in Zhejiang province. Ranking 262th in the latest ESI national ranking, it has enjoyed the reputation as the fastest-growing university in China. The university insists operating in an open and international way. Now a good cooperative relationship has been established with more than 50 universities in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Korea, New Zealand, and all-directional, multi-layered and wide-ranging cooperation has been launched. The University rigorously encourages international students to apply for Zhejiang provincial government scholarship and Taizhou University international students scholarship. There are nearly 400 students from over 30 countries such as Uzbekistan, Russia, Korea, the United States, Germany, Morocco and Mexico who have come to study Chinese language and bachelor’s degree programs including international economics and trade, tourism management and computer science and technology in Taizhou University. II. Admission Brochure i. Program Introduction (i) Chinese Language and Culture Programs LONG-TERM PROGRAMS: Normally, the learning period lasts one whole year with 2 terms; School starts in every February (spring class) and September (autumn class). Each term has 18 weeks, with 24 classes per week. In each term there is 1-or-2 outside learning practice such as visiting, interviewing and discussion around mid-term. After the study period expires, those who can abide by the relevant regulations of the school and pass the examination will be issued a “Taizhou University Completion Certificate”. SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS: It is arranged according to students’ requirements. Curriculum a. Courses and Subjects: The courses of Chinese as a foreign language mainly include Basic Chinese, Applied Chinese and Literary Works, etc. In both long-term and short-term programs all courses are subject to students’ Chinese level and learning purposes. All required courses of the two programs are: Chinese (elementary, intermediate and advanced), Spoken Chinese and Listening, Chinese Reading and Writing, Chinese Newspapers Reading, Selected Works Reading, HSK (Chinese test) Exam-oriented Training, Chinese Phonetics, Chinese Culture and so on. b. Seminars and Lectures: The followings are available to all:(1) Chinese Custom and Folklore; (2) Tea and Diet Culture of China; (3) Chinese Opera; (4) Chinese Folk Music; (5) Chinese Aesthetics. c. Activities & Journey: (1) Greeting of new comers and open ceremony; (2) City-outlooking (including Jiangnan Greatwall); (3) Watching art performances and sports games; (4) Festival-celebrating evenings; (5) Public dancing parties; (6) Concerts of Chinese and foreign songs; (7) Sports games(football, basketball, ping-pong, badminton etc.); (8) Essay writing and exhibitions of excellent writings, photography, calligraphy and painting; (9) Making Jiaozi and other local food with flavor; (10) Field practice (visiting Museums, factories and farms); (2) Short-distance journey: (places of reference: Mount Tiantai, Mount Yandang, Mount Putuo, Changyu Stone Cave, Shenxianju Scenic Area, Taozhu Scenic Area, Yaolin Wonderland, Thousand-islands’ Lake, the West Lake of Hangzhou etc.) Long-distance travel: (places of reference: Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, Kunming, the Yangtze Gorges, Qingdao, Mount Huangshan, Shanghai, Suzhou etc.) Taizhou University is responsible for organization and communication of accommodation. The attendees can enjoy group discount and take care of the cost themselves. (ii) Bachelor’s Degree Programs a. Programs and Duration There are 17 undergraduate majors for foreign students to choose from. Among them, materials science and engineering (metal materials engineering), pharmaceutical engineering, business English are English-taught majors. Computer science and technology, electrical engineering and automation, mechanical and electronic engineering, international economics and trade, and tourism management are taught in Chinese. Architecture, environmental engineering, biological science, Chinese language and literature, musicology, fine arts, visual communication design, product design,and Russian (business) are taught bilingually. And the duration of each major is 3-6 years. Students are required to pass the HSK Level 4 test before enrolling in a bilingual or Chinese-taught undergraduate program. b. Change of Major (1) Bachelor’s degree students in principle enjoy one chance of major change during their period of study at university. (2) Students who apply for major change must meet the language requirement specified for the major they apply for. ii. Tuition and Fees (RMB)
Students are required to make a one-time payment of tuition and fees for the whole academic year. In principle no refund of tuition will be given after the payment. iii. Entrance Requirements Applicants must be above the age of 18, have senior high school graduation diploma or higher, in good health and be non-Chinese citizens. Applicants must not only abide by Chinese laws and university regulations, but also respect Chinese people’s and other international students’ custom. iv. Application Time a. Language Student:September to November、March to June b. Bachelor student:March to June v. Application Materials a. Fill up the application form for international students in Taizhou University, print it and sign the name(Download from the website of International School of Taizhou University). b. A photocopy of passport. c. Senior high school diploma and academic performance. If submitting the photocopy of the diploma, the applicant must take those to notarize in Chinese or English. d. Physical Examination Certification e. Bank Account Statement f. Non-criminal Certificate Applicants can submit all the materials to the office of International School of Taizhou University by mail or post mail. vi. Enrollment Successful applicants will receive Letter of Admission and a “Visa Application for Study in China” (JW 202 Form) after checking and examination. With the Letter of Admission and JW202 Form, applicants can go to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate for visa application. With original documents mentioned above, applicants may come to our university for registration on the designated date on Letter of Admission. Students who provide the false materials can not be admitted. vii. Scholarships a. Scholarship Types/Levels, Proportions and Amounts Type-B scholarships at the provincial level: RMB 20,000 yuan Type-C scholarships at the provincial level: RMB 6,000 yuan University Scholarship b. Qualifications for the Application of Scholarships (1) Foreign nationality, a foreign passport and friendly attitude towards China are required. (2) The applicant must be a high-school graduate who has studied or pursued further studies in the university for more than one academic year (including one year). (3) The applicant is required to respect teachers and seniors, get along well with classmates, obey Chinese laws and rules, possess a healthy body and perform well at university with high attendance in classes and without violating any school disciplines and regulations. (4) The applicant is required to be diligent in study, with the comprehensive score ranking top in class or the excellent new HSK score. c. Procedures for the Application of Scholarships International students shall apply to International school for scholarships usually in June according to application requirements by providing the following application materials. (1) The scholarship application form for international students, which shall be submitted to the relevant school for preliminary assessment and written comments, signed by the person in charge and sealed by the relevant school. (2) The academic transcript, which shall be signed by the relevant class advisor and sealed and confirmed by the relevant school. (3) Materials related to the award of the previous academic year. viii. Accommodation& Medical-care Conditions a. There are separate buildings exclusively for international students. Taizhou University provides convenient facilities such as air-conditioner, internet access, wardrobe, bathroom and hot-water shower. b. International students can either have meals at the dining hall with delicious and varied Chinese and Western food or can cook by themselves in the public kitchen . c. The hospital of Taizhou University is open to all faculty and students in 24 hours. All international students can also see a doctor in hospitals of Taizhou City nearby. ix. Association International Culture Communication Association—It’s an association with various and rich recreational and sports activities. x.
