传说，曾有一种名为 “年” 的凶猛怪兽，每到年末便下山肆虐，人们深受其害。后来发现 “年” 惧怕红色、火光与巨响，于是每至此时，家家户户贴红纸、燃篝火、敲锣鼓，“年” 便被吓得逃窜。次日，人们相互道贺，此夜便成 “除夕”，这些习俗流传至今。

Legend has it that there was once a fierce monster named "Nian". Every year at the end of the year, it would come down from the mountains to wreak havoc, and people suffered greatly. Later, it was discovered that "Nian" was afraid of red color, firelight, and loud noises. So, every time this time came, every household would paste red paper, light bonfires, and beat gongs and drums. "Nian" would be scared away. The next day, people would congratulate each other, and this night became "Chinese New Year's Eve". These customs have been passed down to this day.
