The Education programme in Zhejiang Normal University began to train master’s students since 1998. In 2006, it got the entitlement of conferring master’s degree in education as first-level discipline, and 10 second-level disciplines within the broad Education programme started to train master’s students. So far, it has trained 2,500 master’s students, of which 1,500 or more have earned their master’s degree, with another 1,000 or more current students. 27 doctoral students have been under the supervision of part-time doctoral students’ supervisors in the programme, of which 13 are still working for their PhDs. Within the first-level of Education programme, there are 3 provincial key secondary-level disciplines at level A, 3 provincial key research bases, 2 national programme with its specialty, 2 national top-quality courses, 1 national teaching team, 1 national experimental teaching model center and 1 national education aid center. The programme hosts 84 faculty, of which 43 are professors, 69 are Ph.D. degree holders, 9 are part-time doctoral students’ supervisors. Of the faculty, 1 has been a member of the National Education Counseling Committee and one has been awarded as ‘New Century Excellent Talent’ in China. A number of well-known scholars in China have clustered in the programme, including Professor PEI Tina, SUI Yifan, XU Hui and JIN Shenghong. It has played a leading role in the research field of higher education(HE), comparative education(CE), especially in the research field of African education and Indian education. It has got a unique academic impact in the research field university rationality and culture, digital learning environment design and early child development and education. So far, scholars in the programme have successfully applied over 360 research projects, of which, there are 5 international, 21 national-level and 80 ministerial-level projects. The total research funding is up to 23 million Yuan. Until now, scholars in the programme have earned 6 national-level and 15 ministerial-level awards for their research, one national-level and 3 ministerial-level awards for their teaching. Scholars have also published 82 monographs and over 930 peer-reviewed journal articles, of which 25 appear on top Chinese journals including Xinhua Digest and Educational Research, and 5 articles published on journals that are indexed by the Social Sciences Citation Index proposed by Thomson Reuters.
