Established in 1984, Zhejiang Shuren University is one of the earliest full-time privately-run, state-endorsed universities in China since the national reform in 1978. The university adheres to the “students centered, faculty honored” principle while holding the motto “Virtue, Verity, and Student First.” Taking full advantage of privately-run system, it actively explores new models of higher education reform.

The university has 9 schools with 28 undergraduate majors. Courses are offered in 6 main academic disciplines: Economics, Management, Literature, Engineering, Law and Art, among which International Economy and Trade is honored by the state as the specialty with distinct features, whereas Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science and Technology, are titled as the provincial key specialties. There are 11 laboratories including Humanity and Social Science Lab Center, Computer Lab Center, Chemistry Lab Center, Urban Construction Lab Center, Information Technology and Electronics Lab Center, which are listed in the provincial Model Lab Centers. A first-class sports center, a standard track and field stadium, tennis courts and other facilities are in daily use. In addition, Tonglu Campus of 76.7 hectares is under construction.

The University regards teaching quality as the lifeline. It launched the all-round“Projects for Improving Teaching Quality” in 2006, a “3-year Action Plan for Curriculum Reform” in 2009, and “Outstanding Class Evaluation” in 2010. With the university emphasizing the internship training to cultivate “senior practical talents”, our graduates have gained recognition from various enterprises and the employment rate has maintained at 95% in recent years. There have been more than 60,000 graduates till now.
